With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I had just finished a string of successful shows in NYC, and was starting to line up shows for the spring and summer when the pandemic hit. I remember going to a friend’s show at Rockwood Music Hall, my favorite venue in the city. I think we were all unsure if we should be there and what the future was going to hold, and it was a weird feeling being at a venue that’s usually packed on a Friday night in this state of unease.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

Like a lot of people, my plans were affected pretty drastically when the pandemic started. I had shows lined up for the rest of the year, and for about the first couple of weeks of the pandemic awoke every morning to emails saying that more and more of my gigs were cancelled. I had music that I was working on, so used the suddenly free time to dive into that.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

I know a lot of people have processed and worked through this year differently. For me, I threw myself into writing and music production. I self produced a six song EP Too Blind To Hear that I released in November. I recorded the majority of the EP while secluded in Massachusetts, and the music I made became a really important release for me as a way for me to self reflect, take accountability and ultimately be at peace with where I was. I think my new single Window Dressing is the culmination of this process, owning and being at peace with who I am, regardless of the opinions of others.

How are dealing with the Covid third wave?

I think I’ve been able to handle this pandemic best when I’ve spent less time getting caught up in the forecasting of Covid and the varying degrees of severity, and more time being present in the now and focusing on what I can control. It seems in the U.S. we are closer to the end of this, but either way I think I will keep focusing on what I can control, and find ways to stay productive.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

If you are reading this you are either a supporter of me or a supporter of Starlite, music and the creative arts, so thank you! I take great pride in being an artist and getting to communicate through songs, and I’m grateful anytime I get to connect with other creatives. Keep supporting your local artists, keep supporting your favorite musicians, keep supporting your favorite music publications, and I hope we can all be together in one room interacting in this communal experience called live music sometime soon!
