With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I honestly had no idea what to do when the whole world had paused due to the pandemic. I was living at home in New York and tried my hardest to stay productive, but it was challenging! Luckily, I came across the Twitch scene and starting live streaming. I was asked to do a few shows on people's Twitch accounts, which kept me busy last year. I had a goal to play at least one show every month for 2020 and even though everything was shut down, I was able to complete that goal due to live streaming.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I think the pandemic ultimately affected everyone's plans for the most part. I was supposed to play Electric Forest and was unable to do that because of the pandemic (hopefully next year though!). My debut EP was supposed to be released last summer, but was pushed back because of not only the pandemic, but all the social justice movements happening as well. I wanted to focus my energy on things that mattered more instead of my music, so I took a break from producing and releasing so that I could create space to learn from others and the world.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
That's a great question! I think mental health is an ongoing awareness that everyone should acquire. It's so important to keep yourself and others in check during these precedent times. I was accepted to ICON Collective during the pandemic, which allowed me to fill my free time with education and knowledge. Keeping my brain busy was a great way to address any sort of mental health issues. I also started working out more and cooking instead of eating out. I became very aware of my emotions, which ultimately, helped me start up old habits again that are beneficial, like meditating, journaling and yoga.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
I recently moved from New York to California since I'm still attending ICON and it's based out in Burbank. With everything reopening, I definitely plan on booking gigs and getting my name out in the scene. I think right now, I'm taking things day by day since a cross country move is no joke - it can definitely be overwhelming. However, I am extremely excited for what this city has to offer me. My debut EP "Visions In Black" is releasing next month in August, which has been a long time coming, but I'm happy that we're back on track!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
I'd say to check your mental health and see where you are emotionally and physically. I think, now with cities slowly opening up, people can get lost in the excitement to the point where they may not be aware of the side effects that we may be experiencing coming out of a pandemic. I know that my social anxiety has increased, but it can all be tended too day by day. It's all about consciousness and awareness. Hopefully by next year, we'll all be in a better place :)
