With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I just got off the plane in Saskatoon from a 1-week music residency in Manitoba. I got a phone call from a touring manager that the Junos would be cancelled, and for this pandemic to put a halt on the Juno Awards I knew it was serious.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
All of the shows I had booked for the year were cancelled including a coast to coast radio tour, but I went ahead as planned with my “Up on Stage” EP album release regardless if I wasn’t able to physically tour. Plans change so as artists we need to have the ability to adapt and overcome in situations and find creative solutions.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
I went back to my vision board and set some new goals along with writing new songs that will be on the next full album. I found myself collaborating with other songwriters and venturing out into other avenues of passive income to help get through this rough patch without playing live music. I started multiple lines of merchandise with the help from local businesses, so I was able to offer my fans a small token of my appreciation for their continued support throughout the pandemic.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
The first thing that I did was took my wife out for dinner.... we took for granted a simple date night and enjoying each other’s company while having a nice meal and on the plus side we didn’t have to do dishes. Haha I was also able to travel back to my home community and visit with friends and family at a distance but sadly no hugs.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
When Greg Mathews (Gregos Music) and I decided to go watch Mat Landry (Tupelo Honey) sing and serenade us into a blissful heartfelt evening of well written songs and a performance that left us both with goosebumps and a heart filled. That has been one of my most favourite Starlite Room Moments.... It was also Greg’s birthday, so we also got to sing happy birthday to him.... Cheers!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Yes, support live music cause it’s all we have left after that... what’s a world without music? Feel free to check out my new album “Up on Stage” available on all platforms.
