With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We were just finished a big show at The Rec Room and our band was just up and coming, we had about 2 other shows planned, and people were only just starting to find out about us as a band, or at least it felt that way to us.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We had 2 other shows semi planned, we had a show at The Book Burner In Calgary, it was confirmed yet but the show runner had been talking back and forward to us about it for a while, and we were planning on booking the Aviary for a show. We had plans to also release 6 songs but that has come down to about 1 now, we aren’t sure when that’ll happen either.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Trying to make as much music as possible while I (Patrick speaking) have time. I’ve found that now I have no excuse to not be creative, and it still finds me at strange times during the day but the positive is now I can actually do something about it.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
(Patrick speaking) I went to the Buckingham on Whyte with a friend and of course we used all the precautions necessary to avoid harming ourselves and others. We really still love the atmosphere there and I’ll never forget that particular bar because it’s where me and my band did our first show.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
When we got to see the lovely boys of Medical Pilot do their first performance at the Starlite Room, and seeing them absolutely kill it in the show, they’re all incredibly nice dudes and it was really a dream of theirs to play at the Starlite.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Creativity keeps the mind busy, and while we don’t want to ignore what’s going on, it’s also important to keep yourself out of harm’s way from not being able to do anything, and while right now the creativity can seem meaningless or just a means to an end, it functions as a vessel to put your feelings and thoughts into something else and out of your head. Which is important. Stay strong, listen to music, create something.
