With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We had just finished up recording a few tracks at The Audio Department and gearing up for what was to be a very busy spring and summer with shows and festivals.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We have had several shows cancelled or "postponed" a couple festivals put off until next year. The band is in the midst of a rebranding with our new lead singer and sound, we had big plans for promotion of the new songs and a tour in the fall along with more recording. The inability to promote the music to live audiences hurts us along with the complete lack of income from these shows to put towards new recordings and videos has really slowed our plans down.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
In the beginning we were doing a lot of video chats, to stay connected while keeping safe. A lot of practicing individually. We were lucky to have made it into the studio before the shutdown because working on the tracks and planning their release has been a good way to stay involved with the band and to feel like we are still taking steps forward.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
to the jamspace to play together again, no joke. We had all been loosing our minds being unable to jam
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
so many, one time when the Pack AD was playing me and Aaron drank all the Luckys in the beer tub and the woman working had to go find more, that was maybe one of the drunkest nights of my life and an amazing show. Yukon Blonde years ago played and did an amazing cover of Lets Dance by David bowie with members of the other bands and it was unreal. Seeing Sloan on their Twice Removed anniversary tour. My friends band opened for The Birthday Massacre (who i never heard of) and they blew me away. Volunteering during BOW. I could go on and on and on and still think of more cool stories later. I absolutely cherish this venue
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
We you go to a show at Starlite room the performers on stage look like giants and rockstars but they are also close enough to give you 5 from stage and look you in the eye. The room itself is not something you can just go out and build, it is decades of life and energy and art that create a space like this, it is invaluable to our city and our music scene. You only need to go once to have it leave a life long impression on you
