HOW TO KEEP THAT PUP HAPPY
Hello fellow Quarantinians,
I’m sure a lot of you are picking up new hobbies, and have watched just about everything on Netflix at this point.. but let’s not forget who can also get bored. Your fur babies! It’s very easy for us to fall into the Netflix and chill routine, so this is also good for us to get up, and be interactive in these trying times.
Unfortunately, today I learned that the dog parks will soon be closing to help stop the spread of the virus that shall not be named (you know what it is) which will leave a lot of fur for babies without their usual socialization, and stimulation. I know when we take Romey (our pup) an hour at the dog park will give her enough time to run, and play to tucker her out all day. So, here are some fun ways to get those paws moving.
HIDE & SEEK
Not your usual hide and seek like when you were a kid. First! Hide your pup. Second! Take some of your pups kibble, or break up a strong smelling treat in small pieces and hide them around your home. Third! I’m sure you know what’s next, unleash the hound. We play this game a lot with Romey since she explores so much with her nose.
TAKE THE STAIRS
Pretty simple, a couple trips up and down the stairs will give your pup (and you) great exercise! Especially if you live on the 9th floor like we do. Don’t touch those railing, though! Time to burn off those snacks.. uhg.
KONG OR KIBBLE BALL
We have a kong, and a kibble ball. I’m not sure if that’s what it’s actually called but basically fill that thing with kibble or some treats, or if it works for your pups diet, peanut butter. They will love you, and it’ll keep them busy when you have something to do around the house, or just need a break from play time.
OBSTACLE COURSE
Ever see the Westminster dog show? Well, it’s not really like that. However it is adorable and super fun for you and your fur baby. Start with simple objects for your pup for jump over, crawl under, or run around. An obstacle course is mostly for fun, so no pressure if they don’t get it right away, it’s important for you to have fun too as you will be their leader through the obstacle course. Do what works for your pups ability. I’ll share some great DIY ways to set up an obstacle course, if like most people you don’t have actual doggy obstacle course gear just kicking around.
If you dog moms, and dog dads have other ways you entertain your fur babies, please share the love and email us!
Stay safe, and stay inside everyone!
