THE MARTINEZ
from "Drinking The Devil's Acre - A Love Letter from San Francisco and Her Cocktails" - Duggan MCDonnell
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2oz Gin
3/4oz Martini Rosso Sweet Vermouth
1/4oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
2 Dashes Angostura Orange Bitters Expressed
Lemon Peel for garnish
DIRECTIONS
Pour the liquid into a mixing glass, add ice, stir forty times, then strain into a cocktail coupe, garnish with the lemon peel, and SERVE WITH A SMILE!?!?
Seriously who is this guy?
Little known as the precursor to the Martini, the Martinez has it's origin in the mid-1800s San Francisco. Some say Professor Jerry Thomas was its creator, others credit a bartender named Richelieue in the town of Martinez, California. Who knows? But this almost 200 year old recipe is full of flavour, and full of booze. So, yes please!
Samara used the Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin, which we duty-free'ed back from Australia. Which added a beauty sweetness to the affair.
Chad used the Empress 1908 Gin (the blue stuff) and that gave a more well rounded hit. And with that, the weekend! For whatever that means anymore to us.
