With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I remember back in March of 2020 when we all thought this past year would be a 2 week lockdown. A time to be inside and work on things we never get to. I was stuck inside like most of my friends, hoping for the best and being as creative as we could be. But soon those 2 weeks turned into well over a year, which turned out to be one of the most productive years for me, creatively.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Music wasn't in my plans this year. From recording to touring, I hadn't planned for any of it. If anything the lockdown got me back into music full force. I started with the single "Sheet Ghost Kid" and a music video. That sparked off a recording spree which resulted in my latest full length album, "So So."
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Its easy to get stir crazy when there's nothing to do. I had already set-up the year to launch a Kickstarter which would have seemed like the worst time to do it. Oddly it was the best decision I could have made. It gave me something to focus on, keep engaged and as it turns out so many others were at home with nothing to do. The project funded in less than a day. A mix of keeping a creative project running while also keeping stress levels low were my formula to stay sane.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
I went to a party at the 100 Thieves compound last week. It was the first time I'd been around so many people. Anyone in attendance had to show a Vaccination card to get in. I was amazed at how normal it felt to be at a party again. I thought it would be so strange. Then again, when Dillon Francis started playing a live set and everyone went nuts, I left immediately. I guess I wasn't ready for a true rager, haha.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Take a nap, you deserve it.
