With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
When everything came to a halt, I was pitching coverage requests to my contracted outlets (Exclaim! and V13.net (formerly known as Pure Grain Audio). I remember doing exactly that as the Prime Minister came on the TV to initiate a full lockdown of the country. It's funny how you can remember things like that when they seem so small at the time. Prior to that, I was getting really excited for the year, and anticipating many iconic performances from the announced concerts (by both international and local bands) in Edmonton, as well as eagerly awaiting the announcement of 2020 line ups for Armstrong Metalfest and Loud As Hell.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
COVID-19 greatly affected my plans for the year. Being a full time artist, the downfall of the music and entertainment industry took away 100% of my income. Luckily, I have been able to score a few jobs photographing bands for press relations, and a few odd photography jobs here and there.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Throughout the summer months, I upped my gardening game and had an exceptional yard to show for it. I also spent lots of time hanging out with my dog, camping and just spending more time outside in general. I was able to work more seriously on The Edmonton Dog Blog (@theedmontondogblog on Instagram), and I've also rekindled my love for reading, and crushed my 2020 reading goal for the year, set at 20 books. By December, I had read 22; A proud victory for me.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
I'm taking it one day at a time, and just trying to remain positive and grounded through all of this. It's not easy to hear that we need to continue living these isolated lives, but I'm going to do my part to ensure that we can be done with Covid as quickly as possible.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
How could I choose?! At one point in time, The Starlite Room was my home away from home!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Don't lose the inspiration to do something that was once so important to you. Use this time effectively, and keep pursuing your passions despite the current COVID circumstances!
