With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
In Waterloo (Ontario). Lucky I wasn't on the road, but I was in the midst of recording my full length album, so all of our session work had to come to a complete stop on that track.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I did have a full-album release planned for 2020 and so that entire project timeline was thrown out the window. I put focus, instead, on single releases from the album and have released 3 singles, with accompany music videos, so far during this pandemic. I'm still hoping to finally finish and release the full- length album next year, provided another wave doesn't throw us into another detour.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Free-time is something I have not really had a lot of during this entire pandemic! I have 3 young kids who we kept at home until this current school year, so that had really kept our home-life busy.
Music has been, and always will be, my centre of gravity. My producer, Sam, and I have tried to continue working through our recording sessions virtually. Though far from an ideal recording process, continuing this work virtually throughout the pandemic has helped to support my mental health. It's just a fine line to walk because virtual meetings can also burn me out, which works against my mental health, if I'm not careful.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
No new gigs booked yet. I was invited to do a few gigs this past summer as venues started opening up and restrictions started relaxing, but unfortunately I had to turn them down due to the completion of my last single & music video, Dirty Water, which was a huge undertaking. My focus, going forward, will be on completing the remainder of my full-length album, rather than trying to book gigs.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I've yet to make my way out there so my "future" favourite Starlite Room moment will be my very first visit ever there, whether as an audience member taking in a great show OR as a performer grateful to grace the legendary stage!
