With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We just got home a few months prior to the lockdown after a 3 year world tour with Stevie Van Zandts, Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul.. In March of 2020, I was in the midst of adjusting to home life, doing some local gigs and starting to finish my album that I started 3 years earlier when the stay at home intensive period began....Needless to say 2020 and now 2021 has been one of the most trying times of our lives. It makes you acutely aware of what's really important, good health and the health and safety of the people near and dear to you.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
There was talk about a tour in 2020 and 2021. Obviously that has all been brought to a screeching halt. It caused me to become extremely reflective and introspective about life and the current state of our world and society. Fortunately I was able to channel this energy into song writing and recording.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
As I mentioned, I have always found songwriting to be the most effective process for me to deal with life challenging situations. It has and continues to be my saviour and has kept me relatively good mental health through this unusually challenging time.. I have a home recording studio for many years and put a lot of my time into recording new songs that I have written for upcoming projects as well as (covid safely) producing some other artists.
How are dealing with the Covid third wave?
Recently, several of my close musician friends and family have gotten vaccinated. This will hopefully allow us to safely interact more together.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
I would say to be patient and sit tight, it seems we are still in the midst of getting past this period of uncertainty and concern. Do your best to be compassionate towards others. We need to survive this thing together and hopefully get to a higher place in our understanding of each other.
