With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I had just come back from England, where my Mum had been battling Leukemia in hospital. It was a very dark time. I came back to Los Angeles and very soon after, the whole world shut down. I was unable to return to the UK so I stayed at my home in Los Angeles.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I had a tour planned in the UK at the end of 2020 which has now been put back to October 2021 but could be moved to April 2022, Covid depending. I had to push back the release of my latest single “Big Lonely Cloud” from November 2020, due to lockdown and the election/storming of the Capitol. This all had affected my radio release date in the US and UK.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
I actually have had no free time! I have been incredibly busy filming a lockdown music video, writing music and doing virtual and socially distanced studio time, along with auditioning and filming - as I am also an actress under the name “Jennifer Moxham”. I also manage a British chocolate company in the US -Charbonnel et Walker. You should try their truffles - they are to die for! As with everyone this past year, my mental health has had its ups and downs, especially due to my Mum’s illness but I make sure I eat healthily, exercise, go out in nature and speak with people I love and who make me laugh. Laughter is the ultimate medicine.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
I think at this point, it is about accepting that this pandemic is going to come in waves, as pandemics have throughout history. I am remaining as safe and vigilant as possible whilst continuing to monitor my mental health.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Everyone has good days and terrible days. It is ok to feel low, just allow yourself to feel what you are feeling. It has been a traumatic year where all we read about in the media is death and disease. Take a break from it, be in nature, exercise, speak to people who make you laugh - I forgot how important laughing was for a moment, and make sure you do something everyday that you like.
