With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

It certainly was one of those "that escalated quickly" scenarios! I had been working at my day-job, and I grabbed a few things to take home, so that I could work remotely for what I thought would be a few days, until things calmed down. I left my yogurt in the fridge saying to myself, "Oh, I'm sure this won't last long, I'll be back here eating this yogurt soon." I'm actually scared to ever return now, as the yogurt may have evolved into a conscious being. The yogurt will probably be promoted above me by the time I return.

How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

Yes! I had plans! I was so excited for our upcoming summer tour. I had just pressed our latest album, Salt & Honey, on vinyl, and I was really hoping to be able to sell those at festivals we were playing. You can still buy the vinyl on our website, kingoffoxesband.com/merch but I was really looking forward to playing summer shows and connecting with people in person. Definitely disappointing, BUT I'm grateful that my friends and family have remained healthy, and prioritizing health and safety is the most important thing, at the end of the day.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?

I planted a garden, which was almost entirely eaten by slugs. So, they are happy, and I guess I'm happy for them. I've also been doing a lot of songwriting. I'm currently working on writing a new album. The band members and I co-horted so that we could still get together and play, and we recorded a live performance video together as part of the Alberta Spotlight series on the CKUA website. Making that video was so much fun, it was the closest thing to a show we've done this year!

What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?

We went out for a patio beer at one of our favourite neighbourhood pubs, Cartago. We're still trying to be as cautious as we can, so we haven't been out socially very much.

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

I was lucky enough to see Ladyhawk (from Vancouver) play there a few years ago! I love that band so much. They haven't released anything lately, but I would love to hear a new album from them, or see them again live some day.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Did you know that washing machines need to be cleaned occasionally? That's right, they do. And you should also clean your oven. I do it once per pandemic.
