With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We were hosting a screening of our most recent music video, "Lessons". Probably about two thirds of the people that had RSVP'd canceled or just didn't come, which is totally understandable. We still had a decent group and we partied the night away. Bars and restaurants closed the next day.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
It definitely forced a change of plans. We have our new record coming out May 1st, so we had to cancel our release show here in Toronto. We were also in the works of planning a supporting tour heading into the USA, but who knows when that will happen now. Thankfully we can still move ahead with the actual release digitally and accompanying promotion. You could argue this whole thing might be beneficial in that aspect, a lot of people are online more often than they normally would be right now. So maybe our content will reach a larger audience.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Well, I've been rehearsing by myself with my little home setup, playing along to our record on my stereo. I'm also really cool, being a model train enthusiast, so running my N scale trains has kept me greatly entertained. I live with me girlfriend, so we've been playing Cribbage a lot. As soon as we decided to keep track of wins, she's been kicking my ass. I think I'm down like 8-3. She only just learned how to play a couple of weeks ago!
Favourite quarantine meal?
Ooooh tough question. My girlfriend and I have made a couple batches of my Grandma's recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I definitely do rigorous quality control while they're still warm. How many cookies count as a meal? Jason, our guitarist and resident Cookie Monster/connoisseur, has also given them official approval which is very flattering. We dropped a box on his porch in case his cookie supply was running low. On a healthier note I've been making breakfast fajitas. Sautéed onions, bell peppers and black beans, scrambled eggs with green onion, a little 0% Greek yogurt, a lot of hot sauce and a touch of fresh cilantro. Now I'm hungry again.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
We haven't had the chance to play there just yet, so we're looking forward to making some favourite moments!
