With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

As a band, we were in the midst of recording a few new singles to release in advance to our summer festival circuit. As the weeks went on past the start of the lockdown, it became very evident we would be staying home this year.

How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

Wooden Horsemen is a bit of a seasonal entity. We tour and travel a lot through the spring and summer months but take the rest of the year to write and work on other projects that we have individually. It was sad to know we wouldn't be able to hit the road this season like we always have but we have done our best to stay positive throughout. As for the EP we have been working on, we decided to really take our time on the recording and production since there is much less urgency (given the circumstances).

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?

Well, Joseph and myself (Paul) had a couple beers in our tour van and listened to music last night just because we missed it haha. Sure it was parked in my underground and we weren't off on the road somewhere but it still felt good! We all have other projects that keep us busy so it wasn't too bad and in some ways, having a whole summer in Vancouver was really nice (so long as we can hit the road again soon). Some of us are session players, some of us produce music, Missy is an incredible actor and teaches at VFS. We're all quite busy but luckily we managed to connect and have some great 'socially distanced' hangs in the park over summer.

What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?

I think we went to our favourite little East Van pub to have a cold beer together. All of us have (individually and together) been trying as hard as we can to support all our local businesses.

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

Wooden Horsemen have sadly never played the Starlite! But most of us have played it in other bands. I love the corner stage and if I do remember, it's quite a high stage? I remember having a great view of the balcony (or upper level) from the stage. We were in town for 'Breakout West' a few years ago and we saw a GREAT soul singer from Edmonton. She and her band sounded so good.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Thank you for taking the time to support this initiative. It's no secret the Arts community is struggling all over and I would encourage you all to do what you can to support your venues and organizations because most of the time, the have FAR higher overhead than the Artists.
