EGO MAGAZINE
SUPPORTING LOCAL MUSIC, VIRTUALLY.
EGO MAGAZINE RELEASES WEEKLY ISSUES EVERY FRIDAY
Edmonton Goes Off or “EGO” magazine is a weekly virtual independent magazine created to promote Edmonton-based musicians through photos/graphics, interviews, and recorded live performances.
EGO magazine features a total of 15 musical acts. Each week an “Issue” is released containing personalized photos and graphics, a live recorded performance of one song and a 10-minute interview. The project as a whole demonstrates the collaborative effort of 35+ local artists, with the majority under age 25.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and thus the widespread shutdown of live music events, local musicians have lost the bread and butter of growing their audiences. EGO magazine seeks to capture that very live essence to enrich and bring attention to the thriving arts scene here in Edmonton. EGO magazine lives exclusively on social media platforms to allow our fanbase to easily share our content, as well as directly connect our audience to our musicians.
EGO magazine was created and directed by Tom Tunski, a local event curator and media director. Tom has spent the last two years immersing himself amongst the local hip hop scene through music videos, as well as curating local multimedia arts events. EGO Interviews are hosted by Urban Zoo’s
David Madawo and Elijah O’Donnell, (also co-creators) who are both in their final terms of the RATV program at NAIT. EGO features photos from U of A BFA Visual Art students Evan Robinson and Kaitlyn Konkin and Graphic Design from second year Design student Dominic Lafrance.
EGO seeks to continue to promote and support art coming from Edmonton and plans to expand and create more avenues to do so.
