With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We were organizing our second *big* Canadian tour for summer 2020 (to follow up on the "You Weren't Supposed To See This" tour in 2019). We were also finalizing some guitar and vocals for our debut album "Elephant In The Room".
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
It's affected us in the sense it's really difficult to make plans- things are so unpredictable now. Nova Scotia also has some of the tightest restrictions. We had an album release show in Nov 2021 luckily that went through smoothly, but follow up shows in New Brunswick and PEI had to be canceled. Touring for our first record has been cancelled altogether, so in the shadows we've started to work on our second record now. We've also been trying to branch out and play virtual shows.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
(Adam guitar player) - I was very fortunate as a guitar teacher / school teacher, that work for me moved to online learning, so I've kept pretty busy. Lots of walks and adventures outside and in the woods, and lots of guitar and video games for downtime. It's difficult to teach at home and sometimes be away from people you care about, but I feel like my mental health has been okay throughout this process. Kyle and I (drummer) bubbled together during the start of the pandemic so we were still creating music and going for walks throughout most of this. Our vocalist Tynan, has had a much harder go with all of the free-time at home- we live a little bit further out from him, so getting together can be tough when we have covid restrictions, but he's fallen in love with collecting microphones and has newly purchased guitars to keep him happy and healthy.
How are dealing with the Covid fifth wave? Have things locked down again in your region? Have you had to cancel gigs, tours, etc.? Are things reopening & restrictions are lifting in your region? Have you booked any new gigs, tours, etc.? What are your plans for 2022?
As mentioned above, it's still rough waters for restrictions. But we have plans for shows in the spring, our fingers crossed we're able to perform. As a band we are always talking about how much fun we had on tour, so it would be amazing go back out on the road. We'll also be hard at work creating new material (LP2).
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
We actually weren't familiar with the Starlite Room until Eric Alper helped connect us, so we're definitely going to keep up with the different sessions and streams in the future.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
2021 has been an unpredictable year, all the best to everyone as we keep rolling with the punches into
2022.Thanks to everyone who's reading this- and if you've given us a listen thanks even more. If you haven't and are looking for something new, give us a listen- we sound different but familiar.
