With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I had just gotten back from seeing my family in the desert in California . It all kicked off when we got back so it was quite surreal. Things were fairly normal when I left London and then it was like 28 days later , roughly 28 days later. We had a festival and a few live dates planned, but was going to focus on recording , so in that sense it wasn’t so bad for us , but sadly the lock down took its toll in lots of other ways.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We had lots of plans , like most artist and performers did , but you know the old joke ‘ how do you make god laugh? You tell him your plans”. I’ve actually found it really hard to be productive this past year , it’s just a very grey blur. Saying that , still managed to release an EP and a few singles while working on a full length, and keeping sane and hopeful , which feel like achievements in their own right.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Ha! I sort of envy all the people who suddenly had all the free time. That wasn’t me. The time I did have I spent reading and walking through the woods near my house. That was the he big life saver for me , living near green space is a great thing about London , lots of parks. When it all got a bit much I’d put music on and go for a walk. I do a lot swimming too , and try to meditate and things like that. I also started water fasting which is wild and super helpful for getting some clarity.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
Gigs and tours are so backed up and over booked , especially in London. We just played a gig last week as a two piece, which was still socially distanced , but it was the first time in more then a year and a half and it felt really magical. I’m looking forward to playing again for real with a full band again but need to fill a couple spots first.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Be kind and take your vitamins!
