With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was on tour, singing and playing guitar with John Illsley of Dire Straits. We had just driven four hours up- country for a gig that night when they made the announcement that theatres had to close, so we turned around and drove back home again. It was such a strange feeling - disappointing but scary too.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Just this week we've had to reschedule what was to be my first full band show in a long time, due to self- isolation. Luckily we recorded two singles pre-covid, so being able to put new music out during this time feels good.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
I've been trying keep writing and playing, listening to music and staying inspired and connected to what it is about making music that keeps me in a good place. The chances I've had to play with my band and with friends after all this time have made me so happy and have reminded me why I do this, and that keeps me excited for the future.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
We've rescheduled a theatre show for the autumn, and I hope that things will be easier then. I want to stay hopeful and proactive, but maybe we'll have to rely on doing things online alongside any possible live shows for a bit longer than we'd hoped. We'll see what happens. As someone who likes to be in control of things, it's definitely an exercise in going with the flow!
