With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was on my way home from Mexico, where I went to be by myself and write for a week. I came home to Toronto in full lockdown, with nothing to do other than stay at home, in my studio, and finish the music I’d started writing while I was away.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I had been planning on a series of performances in Toronto, and was hoping to be able to travel and possibly line up some shows in whatever destinations I chose. So that pan has been put on hold. But my release schedule has not changed— still going strong, my next single Ringer drops March 5th.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Music has been everything. Mostly I’ve been writing and recording. This has been my saviour in staying busy, supporting my mental health, and maintaining an avenue by which I can continue to achieve my goals as an artist. I actually returned to work in the fall, at the design house where I work as a painter, finishing props and costume elements for film and television.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
It’s been alright for me. Being able to still work in the music and film industries has been a blessing. As well as this mild winter we’ve been having, which has allowed me to maintain my cycling routines throughout the winter.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
This one, right now.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Prioritize health and happiness. If you’re an artist, stay creative, and don’t stop putting your work out into the world.
