With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
When everything came to a halt I had my monthly brunch show at Yellowhead brewery that was selling out like crazy. We were such a hot ticket show that we were suppose to have two shows every month before everything shut down. I also was doing a weekly show at Spotlight Cabaret doing Drag Queen Bingo every Wednesday. I also had another monthly show at Arcadia doing Drag Queen Trivia! In review I had 7 shows a month when everything came down.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I had a lot on the go and it affected everything from my venues being closed down to my merchandise having to be canceled because of the loss of income. Drag just started paying the bills after 7 years of working my butt off so the loss of this income really just put on hold all of the plans I had for expanding my brand.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
What’s been filling my time has been my day job at Northern Chicken, keeping focused on work has been nice to keep a schedule to get me out of the house. I’m very grateful for having my job in this crazy time. Also if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see I’ve been doing tons of photoshoots with Perspective Photography out of St.Albert. This has been my creative outlet, and even though I can’t connect with people face to face, I’ve been just trying to put out positive art that is packed with colour and fun. I’m so very grateful to have met Sarah from Perspective Photography because with out her I wouldn’t have that outlet. It’s been a life saver. Posting picture also has kept me connected with my fans and created conversations with people that appreciate and love.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
This has been hard, before the second wave I was still doing shows but now that everything closed there is no venues available. Doing drag in your room with a ring light just isn’t the same. Still looking forward though and just planning more projects to keep my mind focused.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Pride 2019! I helped open the show for Michelle Visage, Plastique Tiara and Vanjie! I was the opening act and I preformed “Raise Your Glass” by Pink and it’s was magical. Everyone was living for the moment and I felt so much love!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Support local, drink water, give yourself time to grow and process. This world has been through a huge shift filled with so many changes, trust your process and let yourself grow. Growing isn’t easy and a lot of these challenges we have been through are making us stronger. It may not feel like it sometimes but keep fighting! I love you all! Be kind and be compassionate to each other.
