With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I was at home, munching on probably chips or something, watching basketball on TV, and they cancelled the game mid-broadcast. That's when it all came crashing down on me and I thought, "Oh boy, this is real. This is very real." and soon enough every concert and live event was cancelled and I knew from that moment on that the music industry was about to make a major change and I had to keep up with it to avoid falling behind.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

My latest release, Epic Penguin Sharks, was delayed a whole entire year because of the pandemic. I had to wait until we could safely finish recording the vocals and everything, but we managed to complete it all remotely. I had an album release party planned that I had to set aside as well, which was upsetting, but I did my best to adapt to the digital world. My strategy is to plan things according to Covid protocols to avoid disappointment, at least for the next year.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

I've been productive, believe it or not! I took the time to learn about music publishing, took ukulele and violin lessons, started a publishing company, took courses and workshops, joined several online music groups, and networked with new artists and companies; all from the comfort of my home. Adaptability has always been one of my greatest strengths, so luckily I didn't struggle too much with the change. I definitely don't take it for granted though, and I make sure to check up on my friends and family who need extra support. It's been a challenge in other ways, and the best I can do is take it one day at a time.

How are dealing with the Covid second wave?

Honestly? I'm pretty tired of it all in general, but I'm hanging in there. Of course, I miss live performances, and seeing family and friends, but I'm patient and hopeful. I see people arguing and unfriending each other and all this separation, and it breaks my heart. We are all tired at this point. But, you know, I have my opinions, and I sometimes get frustrated when I see people who aren't playing fair, but for the most part I keep to myself just to save my own sanity. There's a lot of tension out there, but I sleep well knowing I do my part and wear a mask, look forward to my turn to get vaccinated, follow the rules (even though sometimes the rules don't make sense, but I digress) and only hope there's not a third wave...

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

I have yet to experience one! Starlite Room was on my list of venues to play at while I was planning a tour. But I haven't given up hope just yet! I WILL play there someday!!!

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

While you don't have the power to control everything, you DO have the power to control your own actions and reactions. Focus your energy on things that are worthwhile, remember it's totally ok to have rough patches, and live your life the way you think is best for you!
