With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
At home trying to grapple the facts of what was going on in the world. It was a bit of an anxious moment for both of us.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Having released our debut album in Winter 2019, we were gearing up for some local shows, planning a BC/AB/ON tour, and festival season. It has definitely changed our plans in terms of shows we can play; however, it has given us the opportunity to use live steaming in part with other musicians, release new music and videos, and write for our next album.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
In this situation we have been exploring different ways to engage our fans and community through live stream shows, new music, and other channels using our strengths.
Kas has started coaching daily workouts over zoom to our community and partnered with other bands to teach how to make sourdough. I (Emily), have been writing every day, leaning into inspiration from artists like Nick Cave, Lana Del Rey, and Julia Jacklin.
Despite the social distance, we have been finding new, different ways to grow relationships with our community and friends.
Favourite quarantine meal?
It's honestly different every single day. I feel like every night is like an episode of Chopped (the TV cooking show). Kas makes a lot of sourdough bread, and I basically find any excuse possible to make Swiss Chalet sauce.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Favourite Starlite room moment is when I saw The Zolas for the first time! I had always been a huge fan but never had the opportunity to see them live. I can remember being with my best friends and feeling so stoked to hear them play Ancient Mars.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Take the pressure off. Ground yourself and recharge. Support local businesses and artists when you can. Listen to good music. Check up on your loved ones.
We hope to be playing shows in Edmonton someday soon!
