With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I had just gone back to my "day job" of teaching music to young children in daycares, after taking time off to spend with my new baby. Two weeks back in, and that job disappeared.

How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

We had many shows planned that were cancelled or postponed, but all around Alberta.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?

We moved our rehearsal studio (well, some of the equipment) from the basement into our living room and started figuring out how to livestream, make some YouTube videos and do Zoom concerts. My husband is our drummer so we were able to play together even when the rest of the band couldn't. I taught an online songwriting class, and started doing some Curbside Concerts (outdoor, socially distanced). And some more family time with our three kids.

What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?

Well, the first venue we played in again was the Ironwood in Calgary, as part of their fundraiser to keep afloat. It was very interesting to be in the "aquarium" (the glass encased area for the singer) at the back of the stage, behind the band and separated from the audience, instead of at the front of the stage.

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

I am sorry to say I have never made it to the Starlite Room yet! I know it's shocking - hoping our band will play there one of these days!

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Hmmm... be kind to yourselves and to others. We are all going through this together, I don't think anyone has it easy. Support the arts with money if you have the means and with your ears and hearts either way - it will be good for you and for the artists as we all heal together.
