With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
When the pandemic hit, I had just recently gotten home from a few weeks prior and was back to playing gigs and shows within Calgary.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Prior to everything with the pandemic, I was planning to release my single, "Double Take". Choosing a release date of April 21/20, I decided to shift my game plan from playing live shows to promote the song to focusing on creating content to promote the song online as much as possible. I was super grateful for the support of the song in the midst of all of the craziness going on in the world and in everyone's lives.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
I have been spending a lot of my time really getting back into songwriting and the process of creating music. Prior to the pandemic, I was balancing both playing gigs and trying to write as much as possible. To have the time to really focus on the music itself and getting back to my roots as to why I wanted to create music in the first place has been really great. I have also been able to spend time with close family and friends as well as training my new puppy Hazel.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
I haven't travelled anywhere just yet but it was nice to go out boating at Little Bow provincial park when summer started to come around. I love being on a lake so much and that was a great way to get outside and have a change of scenery.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I loved reading Amelie Patterson's q+a, as well as listening to her new single, "Let Your Trouble Go". Amelie is amazing and has an incredible voice and is an amazing songwriter.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Music has always been such an important outlet for me as an artist but also as a listener. Turning to songwriting and finding new music from other artists has been so important in motivating me to keep growing forward. With such uncertain and crazy times right now, allow yourself to continue to find inspiration, whatever that looks like for you. Be patient and don't judge yourself for taking time to regroup and finding new routines. Stay safe and healthy out there!
