With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt? We had a few gigs booked that were really looking forward too and were in the middle of writing a new single. Now we have a few new songs on the way, so trying to use the time productively.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Luckily being still a local band it hasn't affected us as much as other musicians. We were planning to continue to gig at least once a month and to start branching out of Edmonton and work on building a following. No tours were planned nor album. We had planned to release a new single/video this spring but with the shut down we have held off until we could promote it more.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Adam - For the most part I've still been working, but with the extra time that I had, I was mostly catching up on house work and trying to write new music.
Dennis - I wish I could say I had a good amount of free time. My son was out of daycare and my wife Savanna was working, so I was Mr. Mom. That said after a bit of nothing, the band was able to finally jam again, and we got together and started writing. Some really killer tunes are in the works that we're super proud of. I can't wait for people to hear them.
Ryan C. - Well I have not had any free time during this stretch in fact being an essential worker in my day job it got much busier. I install TV internet and Security Services so we became a high-demand when everyone was told the lock up and stay inside. I guess I got lucky on that front.
Ryan M. - Personally I have been finding time to clean the house and time to be less busy. Catching up on books and movies as well as listening more deeply to albums. It has been a great time to practice my instrument and to learn new techniques or licks.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
Adam - First place me and my wife went was Campio Brewery. Felt pretty safe there with all their precautions. Still haven't had a hair cut though, I've let my covid hair go.
Ryan C. - Well I guess we started jamming and working out the rust we built up during isolation. Then we got started on new material since all the shows we had planned this summer were cancelled.
Dennis - Me and Savanna had friends over. I went and saw some old buddies too. Small groups here and there. Really made me realize how much I missed people. We haven't done too much traveling/touring as a band, but we look forward to going out and playing some shows soon... well after getting the rust out.
Ryan M. - Honestly first thing I did was get a haircut. Once bars opened up I went out for a drink and wings.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Ryan M. - Seeing Protest The Hero. Within The Fury went as a band and it was a great night of great tunes and hanging out together.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Ryan M. - Try to stay positive has hard as it maybe. It really is a tough and uncertain time right now but allowing stress and fear to take over will not help. Whether you agree with measures being taken please respect each other and follow the guidelines as set out by Health Services. We will get through this.
