With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We were all at home in Edmonton when the shutdown was announced.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Leading up to the shutdown, we had been writing songs for a new album or EP. we had tentative talks about a few hometown shows we wanted to play in the spring/summer, but nothing set in stone. Since The province has reopened, we’ve been trying to balance the personal and financial toil that the pandemic has made all of us feel. We’re still writing and recording demos, but everything has definitely slowed down while we adjust to this new normal.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
I can’t speak for everyone else, but I’ve personally been way less productive than I thought I would be! Sporadically writing, reading, re watching a lot of personal favourites in TV shows or movies. Anything to make us feel better about where we’re at.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
I remember when The Buckingham started delivering food about a month and a half after the shutdown happened. I’ve been working there for about three years now. Walking through those doors and engaging with the staff brought me more happiness and relief than I thought would ever be possible. I also remember the first live stream show they did there on the patio. Seeing a live performance in person for the first time since the shutdown was an emotional experience as well. That’s the thing we miss most about this. Playing and attending shows.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
So many! I’m constantly drawing back on the show we played with Royal Tusk this past February. It’s always cool to see a hometown hero play in front of their home crowd. That was a great moment.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
As soon as places like the Starlite Room open up again, it’s going to be more important than ever to support them. We’re blessed to have an embarrassment of riches in Regards to the talent in our local music community. We need to make sure that we show the arts some love!
