With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
Like most people, we where at home doing the normal day to day routines. Work, school, family, gym, watching hockey and playing music. The day the pandemic started to shut things down it became clear that those routines where quickly coming to a halt. It was tough too accept at first but after some time the new normal was easy too accept and work around.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We had a big 2019, touring across Canada twice and our first European tour where huge milestones. We where planning on riding that wave into 2020 but due too Covid-19 most of our plans got put on hold. We where however planning on recording a full length record, and because we had so much extra down time ahead of us it became the focus for the year. Most of the tracking is complete, we are expecting a 2020 summer release.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
As a band we are finding lots of time to prepare for the release of our next album. However as individuals we are all taking this time too self reflect and focus on family, friends and the relationships we hold close too us. One positive from the pandemic that I’m sure lots of people can agree on is that it’s really outlined what’s truly important in life.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
Wing night! The first night out at a restaurant was great, mad props to everyone working in the hospitality industry during this time. The experience may be a little different but it was a good feeling to get out and enjoy some drinks and eats after a few months of being trapped at home.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Opening up for the Black Dahlia Murder. Unfortunately the extended Wolfrik family suffered a huge loss this year with the passing of our Brother Kevin Perry. At the time KP was our guitar player and a massive driving force in this band. It was a dream come true for him to open for TBDM. We can not thank Tyson and the Starlite Room team enough for giving us that opportunity and continuing to believe in us every step of the way.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Stay safe, be positive and love each other. We are all in this together.
