Ben has different band members in different cities as well.
With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I had just returned from spending February gigging in and around Toronto.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
All of my spring summer gigs/festivals were cancelled as well as a Homeroutes tour scheduled for October. I have dates on the road in September, one has cancelled so far. I'm avoiding reaching out but I think they might cancel as well.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Writing songs, working on my guitar playing, trying to learn basic recording so I can demo my songs, cooking more, exercising and confronting demons lol. I have been to a few outdoor jams where adequate distancing is followed. I'm trying to improve my non existent technical skills so I can make decent sounding and looking videos to post, mostly with the goal of making people feel good/understood/not alone. I've also been digging into music I stopped listening to as much as an adult. I have had one online concert, played a coup-le pdf zoom birthday parties, sent in two song videos for the anniversary of a funeral I performed at 2 years ago. I've been rollerblading, if you see a fifty plus year old man awkwardly rolling past you on the street wearing a purple helmet and a look of determination, that's me.Oh yea, I bought a ukulele bass, look out Robbie Shakespeare…
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
Nothing really, went to a couple of restaurants that have since re shut down. I'm happy to buckle down and try to evolve as an artist and as a person.I've discovered I prefer my cooking than eating out food fro the most part, except I love the cheese burger and fries at The Commodore !!!!
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Getting ID'd well into my forties!!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Things never go back to what they were, try and let yourself evolve with the world.Change is tough, but change is inevitable, roll with it, make the most of it, make your new ideas a reality!
