With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We were actually practicing for a show we had the next day! We were scheduled to play a basement show with some of our Edmonton pals Squids and Hunchback. We ultimately decided to cancel the event that night. During the few hours we were all together all of our phones kept blowing up with alerts from school, work and friends which made us realize really quick that things were going to change big time, unfortunately, starting with our basement show :(
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
This summer was going to be our first year of real touring. We canceled our Canadian tour planned for May, along with dates to record new music. In the coming months we planned to play festivals and various shows around AB/SK/BC but along came covid! 2/3 of our band are students, so during their summer from May-Aug the plan was to be (almost) full-time musicians and really develop the band through touring everywhere and recording some new tunes.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
We've gone right back to writing! Being busy with everyday life gets stressful and often it's tough to feel inspired/relaxed to write new music. Even though we've had our world flipped upside down if you look on the bright side we now have an environment free of distraction with plenty of time to spare. Once the studios open back up we'll have an entirely new batch of great stuff to record!
Favourite quarantine meal?
Aunt Jemima pancakes with blueberries
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
When we actually got to play our first Starlite show about a week before Quarantine began! March 6th was a big night for us, we opened for RC Sindicate, The Unfortunates and Brother Octopus in the biggest show we've ever played. It was an incredible experience to be a part of such an iconic venue and was a very sobering moment for us as musicians. We started this band in March of 2019, and after so much hard work, it finally felt like it was paying off. Playing at the Starlite Room definitely gave us a sign we are headed in the right direction and connected us to the music community in a very special way.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Don't waste your time! Netflix and video games will always be there, the time to learn new skills and work on a project will slip away before you know it. Write something, learn to cook, wake up early and stay positive!
