With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I (Connor) was living in Toronto, Ontario at the time, all my sources of income vanished overnight. I self-isolated for two weeks, then moved back across the country to my hometown of Chetwynd in British Columbia. It’s a small rural community that’s been unaffected by COVID-19 for the most part. I am currently here working at a coal mine and saving money while everything else is halted.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Yes, we had planned an album release and tour and initially planned to postpone due to the inability to safely or responsibly tour. We decided to re-evaluate and are currently plotting the release of our second full length LP, regardless of touring. It will come out in 2020!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
As I said before, lots of time working at the coal mine. The rotation is 7 days of work, 7 days off work, and I work 14 hours a day when I’m working. In my time at home I’ve developed a workout routine in the basement as well as spending a lot of time writing our third album. Going out for hikes in the wilderness and unwinding with some super smash bros or Netflix!
Favourite quarantine meal?
I have a very strange diet. Everything I eat is a whole food. For example, I haven’t eaten refined sugar in a year and a half.
So, for me it’s the custom creation, somewhat of a paleo stir fry that I cook up in a cast iron pan using cauliflower rice, zucchini, sweet potato, avocado, chicken, spinach. Sautéed in olive oil and seasoned with rosemary, thyme, oregano and basil. Bon appetite!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Set up a schedule and try to keep yourself busy. It’s helped to keep me sane. We’re all in this together. Your effort matters, so don’t think of it as insignificant!
