With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We had more out of town shows planned than ever this year, so we were lucky to still be home in Vancouver and not stuck out on the road when things got shut down. We know some bands that were out on tour when everything happened and had to completely drop their plans and drive/fly home. It's been a downer not being able to hit the road even once so far this year, but already being home when it all went down saved us a lot of hardships, and a ton of money.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We haven't been as badly affected as some bands, but COVID-19 has mostly derailed what was supposed to be our busiest year to date. We were planning a small western Canadian tour this May that had to be postponed. We had also planned to play Vancouver Island for the first time ever in March and that's had to be postponed as well.
We have more tour and festival plans for this summer, some announced already and some to be announced. We're doing our best to remain hopeful about these plans, but everything is so uncertain, and it's hard to know what's going to be allowed to happen and when.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Our original plan for this year was to play shows and tour this Spring and Summer, then start work on our next full-length album in the Fall. With everything getting shut down, we've basically flipped that plan on its head. We're hoping we can come out ahead in the long run from all this by getting a big head start on the next release. So, we've been doing a lot of at-home writing and file sharing lately.
That being said, we want to help keep people entertained during this time, so we're also working on some cover videos. It's a depressing time for a lot of people, so we want to put out some fun content while we work through this crisis.
Favourite quarantine meal?
White Claws 👍
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Probably our fav has to be Jinjer performing I Speak Astronomy last Fall. We were lucky enough to open for them in Vancouver a couple nights later, and it seemed like Edmonton went just as crazy for them as Vancouver. It's really inspiring to see a band bring that kind of energy to the stage night after night.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
This is a rough time for everyone in the music industry, but it's going to bounce back, and Kosm is going to be ready to hit the ground running as soon as things start getting back to normal. We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who's supported us in our careers so far, and who we know will continue to support what we do during these trying times.
