With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
We last played on March 15th, it was a pretty eerie gig to be honest. We were supposed to do one last vocal session for the debut record on the 18th, but in the interest of our buds and for everyone’s public health, we took the break to chill.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We would have liked to release the record this year, and get ready to tour a bit around Western Canada in ‘21. Making music is rarely a linear path, so time will just do what time does, and we’ll play music again for people when we can.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Recently started smoking joints again. And cleaning up my jumpshot.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
Went back to work building condos, and took a six pack to the basketball court at least three times a week.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
All-time? To be honest, in April this year. Ayla Brook and The Sound Men’s album release live stream. Everyone was anxious and having a tough time. One of my best friends and I watched it together over Zoom, and while I was able to run the stream over Bluetooth, the Zoom chatter stayed through the computer speakers. So it felt like those times at a gig, shoulder to shoulder talking a bit while the band played on. I gave me a minute to put this whole thing in perspective, and remember the cool things about live rocknroll that old maybe taken for granted for a while, while getting to support some of my best rocknroll buds at the same time. It was cathartic.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Be cool, be kind, and try to behave yourselves.
