With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
Our band is based out of Whitehorse, YT. Leading up to the pandemic we were mostly doing house concerts and shows at smaller venues in the winter months. We released our last album in 2018 and were starting to think about developing another.
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We had planned to do a small tour on Vancouver Island and had just finished our applications for regional festivals in the Yukon and northern BC, which are now on hold. When it is safe to do so, according to the regulations and advisories set out by the Yukon Chief Medical Officer, we manage to practice in person outside when it is warm and inside at a distance. We have also done some walks together as a band where we have worked up a few a capella tunes. We always seem to surprise anyone that we meet on the trail - I can imagine that it is a bit unusual to come across five women singing in the wilderness!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
Each member in the band is making the most of this time in different ways. When we can't meet in person, we meet via Zoom. Some of us are learning new instruments, others are continuing to build their skills as a musician as there is always something to learn, and I am loving the time to write new songs. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to go into the studio in coming months!
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
We live in a pretty great place - I think all of us in the band were just happy to be able to practice together again and see our friends out in the wild spaces of the Yukon.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our music! We miss seeing you in person and look forward to when we can create one of those magical moments that happens between musician and listener in a special space. We hope that if your spirit needs a bit of lifting right now, this music can help a bit.
