With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was in downtown Toronto when the first lockdown happened! It was bizarre. The parks and lakeshore were packed (which I learned to avoid) during the day. At night, it was like a post apocalyptic sci-fi movie! The streets were a dead zone. It's still sort of like that.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I was just gearing up to promote a new EP, start shooting music videos, and begin booking shows across the country! Everything ground to a halt!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
The first four months were tough. I was going through a sad break up and was suddenly on my own. I'm a bit of a loner but being totally isolated is different! The only humans I saw were my wee godkids through their living room window once a week! One day, I decided to get out of my pyjamas and pick up the guitar again. Haha! I've managed to keep busy by shooting music videos, writing, recording, and forcing myself to be productive everyday! Walking a lot, reading, and having good friends that force me to join zoom chats... which always ends up being super fun! I started therapy with an amazing psychiatrist a few months before the pandemic. That's helped immensely with my mental health... in particular... being diagnosed with Adult ADD, getting a handle on a lifelong struggle with depression, and learning how to function properly for the first time ever! It's been an amazing reset!
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
I'm super focused now in the second wave on music, film, and acting projects! I am however really missing my friends and family! It can be lonely sometimes... especially after a glass of wine on a Friday night! How many times can I watch The Lord Of The Rings!?! To be fair... that happened a lot before Covid-19! Haha!
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I'm old school so most of my memories are from the REV days when I was in my 20's although I've had my fair share of beers at the Starlite while travelling out west!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Stay connected to friends and family online! I was really disconnected for the first half of 2020... it's made a HUGE difference now to be more engaged and to have a laugh with the people you love! Even when you're tired and really don't want to. It's always worth it! Be safe everyone!
