With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I had just arrived in Winnipeg with a carryon last March. The plan was to be in town for a week. A week became...over ten months so far...
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I was pretty lucky this year. Since it was my first time releasing a book and album I didn't really have anything to compare it to. All of my book/festival events pretty seamlessly moved to a digital format and as much as I am saddened to have missed my opportunity to read and sing to people in packed little book stores, I am grateful to have been able to work comfortably from my home.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Well...in lots of ways. I am obsessed with the royal family now. My Italian is a bit better. I shrunk my favourite sweater. Learned how to shuck oysters. Fell in love. Started releasing music with a new project called Sunshine State. Started co-writing a memoir for someone. Put up a Christmas tree. Watched the Bachelorette with my youngest sister. and FT. Lots and lots of Facetime.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
I'm doing this strange interesting Block therapy thing that feels like it's going to fix my body, taking salt baths, writing songs, watching Rosanne and staying IN.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I'm new here so, honestly, this moment right here. Typing to you. It's giving me a nice little added sense of purpose this morning.
