With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
As it turned out we were in the middle of a tour that was about to wrap up in Sydney. The night before we had played a show in Melbourne (roughly 8-10 hours from Sydney) and were on our way up to home to play again in a couple of days time. During our trip back and the days that followed everything in Australia began to blow up and the day before the show we were forced to cancel along with every other event in Sydney basically.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Yea as mentioned we were just about to close out a run of shows, we were super grateful to have played most of them having only cancelled our final date. During the first few weeks of the closures we actually smashed out a lot of demo recordings we had been sitting on. It was easy to stay productive at first thinking that the closures wouldn't last too long but now here we are (laughs). Although venue restrictions are a set back for all of us musicians as a band we have enjoyed seeing the industry adapt and artists move their music in new and creative ways. Hoping we can do the same with our next release, hopefully!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
We have pretty much finished up the writing & demo recording of our debut album. It's been a big dream of ours to put an album together and the free time has definitely helped that come together quicker than it otherwise would have. As a group our mental health has had its ups and downs with some weeks being really frustrating and just wishing shit was back to normal. During the main lock down period in Australia a few of us were living together with some mates so we always had each other to share in the frustration, work on music and booze out here and there. There are a lot of people doing it worse than us so we can't complain, we are just grateful to have what we have at the moment.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
Ahhh the second wave, it was inevitable really. I think it's been long enough since 'normal' was around so we are just going through the motions again really. Writing and recording are keeping us going always, hopefully jumping in the studio for real this year and getting some more songs out is an absolute priority for us.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I was only made aware of Starlite today so i've been digging through the archives on everything i've missed!!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Keep supporting your favourite artists, listen to their music, share it to your friends. It might not seem like a big deal but every push an artist gets from listener to listener could be the moment they are unearthed so if you love a song/Ep/album or the band in general pass it on :P
