With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

In late Feb 2020, I had just gotten home from the 6 month North American tour of Queen's We Will Rock You... I was keen to get back to Souls in Rhythm and then everything shut down!

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

Like pretty much everyone in the live music industry - it greatly affected our lives. We did have an album release planned... but we've put that on hold. We normally would play quite a few shows in a year, but... 2020.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

We managed to safely finish recording a full length album - which we had planned - and are SO excited about! But we have held off on releasing it, until we can again properly rehearse our live show. I've been writing a ton, and producing other artists - so that has been fulfilling. However, the mental health part of things has been really challenging. Without regular rehearsals, shows, live teaching, or going to watch other bands/artists - it's left a massive void in our lives. The isolation, putting our goals on hold, and simply not being able to spend nearly as much time together as friends, over the past year has cumulatively taken it's toll. We're feeling optimistic about the future, but in the meantime it's been quite difficult.

How are dealing with the Covid second wave?

This second wave has been challenging to say the least. We've not seen each other and have spoken less than ever. We're going to greatly appreciate each other, and the opportunity to make and play music when this over! I'm trying to get outside as much as possible, appreciate the blue sky, feed the squirrels, and chickadees, contemplate and plan for the future, and hone our marketing plan for when we do release our new record.

Favourite Starlite Room Moment?

Oh man... Playing the Starlite Room ourselves, is in our top three shows of ALL time! It was quite a while ago now (perhaps 8+ years ago??), but we had just finished recording a record in Vancouver and we hadn't played in a while, and whether it was our enthusiasm, or the fine folks in Edmonton, or a combo of both - the crowd ended up being SO mighty. It wasn't a sold out show - but I don't believe we've had a show with that much unbridled energy ever. Collectively we tore the roof off the place.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

Congrats on making it halfway through this pandemic! Check up on those close to you, and call your folks. Get outside! Be as grateful as you can for as many things as you can as often as you can. Discover some new music and for the love of God, when this thing is over - go to as many (music, dance, theatre) shows as you can possibly afford!!
