With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was actually just returning from a week in Mexico City. I was one of the only ones wearing a mask at the airport on the way there, and by the time I got back (early March) it felt like a movie.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
I had plans to release and EP and tour it, and just like many of my fellow artists I had to change that course and improvise a new one. But, to be honest 2020 still proved to be productive for me. I released 3 singles from my upcoming THE VILLAIN EP (Slow & Steady, C A S T L E and the latest Deepest Pleasure as well as an additional summer bonus single called Crimson). I decided to still go ahead with the release of THE VILLAIN, so that's coming up in January.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Whew.. first and foremost like many others I added some major cooking/ baking skills to my resume.. I was a good cook before, but now I'm like my grandma's level.. (probably not.. I'm reaching lol) I read some new books, wrote some new songs.. Ive been lucky enough to shoot and release 3 visuals for my singles with a 4th on the way for Deepest Pleasure. Very grateful to my collaborators for being just as eager and inspired to keep working while fighting our collective anxiety of the pandemic, injustices, natural disasters, elections etc. It's been surreal. I also started work on my next EP after VILLAIN along with its visuals. My way to keep from spiralling into fear has been all of this. To keep working when and where possible. But I must say that I couldn't have done it without my friends and collaborators. Team work really makes the dream work.. It sure kept it from turning into a nightmare.
How are dealing with the Covid second wave?
I left the states and came back to Mexico City. Obviously I'm being cautious and have been tested, I always wear a mask etc. I finished all the work I could in LA for the year so I decided to come and do some socially distanced adventure with some socially distanced friends. Refresh and recharge.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I haven't been yet.. But heavily looking forward to the day when live shows happen again.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
We're all going through it. Different versions of the same thing. Whatever you're feeling or not feeling is valid. If you find yourself spiralling talk to friend.. FaceTime, call.. or take a long drive and spend some time in nature.. That always helps.
