With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I was at home in Calgary. The band had a gig lined up at the Ship & Anchor for March 21 with Jeremy Gignoux who is an amazing local violinist. We recorded an Ep with him in January 2020 and this was going to be the release party. Needles to say, the gig got cancelled.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

It couldn't have come at a worse time for us. After 3 years of hard work, Total Gadjos were getting a following and played opening spots for bands like The Lemon Bucket Orkestra at The Gateway and Goran Bregovič at Jack Singer Concert Hall among others. We planned to record an LP in December 2020 and tour.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

I am spending any free time remixing the EP we recorded with Jeremy and learning everything I can about mixing. I am writing new songs and recording them. I am also a visual artist so I’ve been painting a lot. All these activities are vital to my mental health, but I am also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt and my gym got closed during covid. That was another blow so I got some home exercise equipment, which is way more boring to do than Jits.

How are dealing with the Covid second wave?

I am preparing for the end of covid by learning audio engineering, writing new songs, and painting lots as I want to record and produce the new Total Gadjos LP and have another painting show. I wear a mask in indoor public spaces and do homeschooling with my 2 children.

Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?

My motto these days: do what you gotta do when you gotta do it.
