With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
Well, I was a retail sales associate in a cannabis store up until the pandemic went and turned the whole world into a giant mess of stationary molasses. Thankfully by the good graces of CERB and a dead relative's inheritance money, I was able to set myself up with a nifty little home studio in my mom's basement. I have found that the whole social isolation thing hasn't been all that bad to me. I never liked leaving the house anyways and plus I have all this extra free time to be both creative and sedentary :)
How has that affected your plans for the coming months? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
As far as performing goes, the pandemic has really sidelined my plans for busking and playing on open stages around town. however, since early summer i've been writing and producing my full-length debut album "radio flyer" which is slated for an early to mid 2021 release. If covid is still kickin' it after it comes out, all of my superpowers will be going into promoting and marketing that bad boy. My mom tells me the songs I made sound like a hybrid between tame impala, the Beach Boys, and the man himself, Daniel Johnston.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home?
I took up a few different hobbies to take some weight off of trying to formulate radio hits in my dank little basement. for instance, I started a garden in my mom's backyard and also spent countless hours listlessly staring at the walls. on a more musical note, I've been learning how to make music on tape cassettes so i can add that special vintage vibe to my stuff.
What was the first thing you did/place you went to now the country is starting to slowly re-open?
Amidst all the anxiety surrounding having to look for a job again, i've been coping by religiously playing open mics in the hopes that some of my tunes will get stuck in people's heads. i actually played a few songs at River City Revival House recently. it was my first public performance ever. I'll definitely be back to perform more when it opens again
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
I have to admit i've never actually been inside the venue. I came with a friend for a concert last year, but i lost my wallet and my identification in the washing machine before the show. i couldn't get past security without picture id, so i sat in a nearby Tim Horton's for three hours waiting for my friend to get out of the concert. looking back i really wish i hadn't done laundry that day
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
It’s okay to be sad.
