With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
I was back home in Canada at my parents at the time. At the peak of the pandemic, my manager G and I were still writing and working hard on our music. We struggled through the pandemic when we learned G's Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and my aunt was soon after also diagnosed with stage 4 lung. We had a steep way to go, and were also on hold waiting for our final mixes.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
We had originally planned an EP release and because of the pandemic, it slowed production time. Right before the pandemic hit, I was fortunate enough to perform live at the MOD Club in Toronto which has now shut down because of COVID.
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
I've been really focusing on working on myself, my image and mental health. I've gotten more serious about producing my own music and mixing and been focusing on social media, building a community and getting to know my fans. I'm now moving into the video space, trying to produce higher quality content for my fans!
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
I have yet to book anything live at the moment, but I have done many virtual live performances for my fans. It's been fun and I've been able to even answer some of their questions or song requests while I'm on live. I've also been working with Eric Alper during this time to help promote my record Phantom.
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
It feels great to be recognized as artist of the day at Starlite Sessions! The most important thing for me right now is to get to know my fans, and through publications like Starlite Sessions, it can be a great reach.
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
Absolutely! I think these past two years have been huge trials and hurdles for all of us, regardless of what else we've had going on personally whether they've disrupted or kept us pushing. I think the important thing I've learned is to take a step back and truly understand that in some way, we can all relate to one another about how we feel during this lockdown and pandemic. Taking this as a blessing instead is a great outlook, to use the time now to build, create, discover, learn or re-invent.
