With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?
While being a proud graduating senior of the Class of 2020, and not having the chance for a physical graduation celebration and to experience prom, torpedoed by the virus, and further setbacks with my parents who lost their jobs, I took it in my stride and yet embraced the challenge. Whilst the lockdown has been a show stopper for many in different ways, I decided to use the extra time to hone my craft, and give back to the community through my art by imparting vocal education to the Gen Z, and released a series of Original songs which I had written during the pandemic which resulted in the release of my Debut Album "Ready to Run" in May 2021. I also undertook modeling projects and brand partnerships supporting small businesses. To top it all, I was accepted into the University of Toronto, to further my education. This was a special moment for me.
How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?
Driven by my zest and fiery passion for music, I managed to stay positive and creative with limited resources at my disposal. I released my very first Album, a quarantine creation in May 2021 , which was self written, self composed and co-produced. It would have been great to have an official launch, however I managed to release it anyways with all precautions in place. Releasing my Debut Album during the pandemic as an independent artist was a huge milestone and achievement for me!
What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?
Through the hard way, I have learnt that self-care and self-love are not only important but crucial for your own mental health and this is the core message I also convey through my music. I believe the arts can weather any storms and music is my go-to. For as long as I can remember, music has always been a part of my life. Right from an early age, I knew that music was my passion. Taking inspiration from life experiences, toxic friendships, negative people, bullying etc... I began writing and there has been no looking back since. Self care could be different for everyone. Personally, I like to treat myself by working out, taking a warm bath, and watching a feel-good movie. Do whatever makes you feel good because you deserve to be kind to yourself!
I try to represent my artist brand in a way that takes the uplifting and empowering messages from my music, and channeling that energy through a vibrant and exuberant visual style. This is reflected in my personality as well. I encourage listeners to be themselves always! Yes, for sure be inspired by people around, but share your own light and own what makes you unique. Being a vocal mentor, I am dedicated to helping the youth amplify their voice in society, as well as on stage.
As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?
Now with things slowly re-opening, I am eagerly waiting to release my next EP, which is in the works now. This is different as I am now able to collaborate with the some of the finest and talented Grammy nominated producers in the industry, and am eager to take my music to the next level, through live shows and performances, attracting a wider audience. I'm definitely looking towards more live in-person performances soon, and will be posting all updates on my socials. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, I'm excited to share that I've just released my new dance-pop single "Dancing On My Heart" along with the music video. Hope you enjoy!
Favourite Starlite Room Moment?
Would be great to perform there someday!
Do you have a message for everyone at home reading this?
I know the last two years have been especially tough for all of us. Always remember to take care of yourself and know that its totally okay not to be okay all the time. It is important to never give up no matter how challenging things can be, and never let anyone stop you from doing what you love!
