With the current pandemic, the state of the music and touring industry has dramatically changed. Where were you when everything was brought to a halt?

I was snow tubing with my kids. On the last day of our trip, we showed up at the hill to find a closed sign with a note hanging on the door apologizing for end times.

How has that affected your plans for the coming year? Did you have a tour planned, upcoming album release?

Luckily I have my own studio, so I’ve just kept making music. During the first lockdown I initiated a remote collaboration project, working with different artists from our isolated locations, sending files back and forth using state of the art internet technologies to bring new songs to life. So far only one of them has been released (“Means To Be” which was made in collaboration with STILL), but there are more already in the can that will be released before long, and more I keep initiating. I released my latest LP “Ballroom” just over a month ago, and I’m pretty far into another two full-length records. All said, my productivity as a song maker has increased over the past couple of years. My dreams of becoming a cruise ship performer have had to be put on hold, but there are worse things.

What have you been doing to fill/make the most of your new-found free time at home? How are you supporting your mental health through all of this?

Having more free time means more opportunities for making art. I’m doing a lot of finger painting, and working on some new approaches to building domino runs. I’m growing some pretty killer butternut squash and cannabis, too. I don’t smoke weed anymore but I’m going to have a whole lot of it in a month or so. Pounds, by the looks of it.

I’m stockpiling a lot of new song ideas, and working on several music videos. I’m also writing a screenplay with an actor/musician friend of mine that’s coming together. In terms of preserving mental health, there’s only so much you can do outside of trying to stay off the booze and having as much intercourse as possible.

As things are reopening & restrictions are lifting have you booked any new gigs? Tours? Etc? If your region is still under restriction, how are dealing with the Covid third wave?

No gigs planned as of yet. There’s still a bit too much uncertainty for me to want to invest a lot of energy into that for the time being. I’d rather just keep writing and making music in my studio and finish up the records I’m working on.
